The objective of the Agriculture Competitiveness Project for Moldova is to enhance the competitiveness of the agro food sector by supporting the modernization of the food safety management system, facilitating market access for farmers, and mainstreaming agro-environmental and sustainable land management practices. It is proposed to trigger OP/BP4.11, Physical Cultural Resources, as the project will support the rehabilitation of the building of the countrys Food Safety Agency (FSA), which is listed on the Moldovan National Registry of State-Protected Monuments. OP/BP 4.11 was not triggered at the time of project preparation because the decision of the Government of Moldova to house the FSA in this particular building came in 2013, during project implementation. An additional changes relates to the substitution from the project of the Chisinau Airport Boarder Inspection Point (BIP), with one located at the Giurgiulesti border crossing point with Romania. Finally, other minor amendments to the description of activities and definition of the FSA under the Financing Agreement are proposed, to reflect a recent change in the status of the FSA, which became an autonomous state agency reporting directly to the Prime-Ministers office and is no longer subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
