The Project will support improvement in the socio-economic well-being of people in Brazil, in line with the Government of Brazil’s vision of driving growth through sustainable infrastructure development, as well as BNDES’ commitments to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Project Description
The NDB loan will support BNDES in financing projects in the public and private sectors with the scope of works focused on developing sustainable infrastructure aiming at the achievement of selected SDGs. Preliminary indication of sectors and activities to be financed by the Project are:
(i) Water and Sanitation – projects focused on the treatment/expansion of sewage systems, urban drainage and flood management, solid waste management and water supply;
(ii) Renewable energy and energy efficiency – renewable energy generation projects, such as implementation of wind farms, photovoltaic plants, compressed hydrogen gas (CHG), natural gas thermal power plants, separate heat and power (SHP), biomass and waste-to-energy plants, public lightening and other technologies, energy transmission and distribution systems, which allow for increased access and/or greater energy efficiency and economic productivity;
(iii) Mobility and urban and rural development – road infrastructure, such as civil works and equipment to improve infrastructure of urban and rural streets, rural lighting, cellular infrastructure for rural areas, smart cities projects, roads and bridges, logistic and port infrastructure;
(iv) Water resource management – water resource management and water security projects, protection of rivers, slopes, springs, floodplains, and irrigation that contribute to the mitigation of effects of climate change; and
(v) BNDES Project Factory – by providing technical assistance to sub-borrowers for structuring of infrastructure projects and it may take the form of feasibility studies, financial modelling, basic and detailed designs and municipal infrastructure asset management plans, contemplating the technical, economic, financial, legal and socio-environmental feasibility of public and private investments, PPPs and concessions. |
