Project Detail |
The project concerns the construction of two new roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo vessels using sails (wind) for main propulsion. The vessels will be operated on a transatlantic route between Europe and the East American coast, with substantial fuel savings and significant environmental benefits compared to conventional cargo vessels with traditional propulsion systems. The vessels will be constructed and operated in compliance with IMO and EU regulations and will operate under an EU flag.
Objectives
The project concerns the construction of two Ro-Ro cargo ships, that use sails (wind) as the main propulsion system. The vessels will operate on a new transatlantic route between the Atlantic coast of France and the east US / Canada coast, including the French Overseas Collectivity of St Pierre & Miquelon. The vessels will be constructed and operated in compliance with IMO and EU regulations and will operate under an EU flag. By using sails for main propulsion the vessels are expected to demonstrate a significant reduction in fuel consumption and associated greenhouse gas and other pollutant emissions compared to conventional ships on the same route.
