Cheap and environmentally-friendly plastic recycling
Since the 1950s, more than 8.3 billion tonnes of plastics have been produced worldwide, where almost 80 % has gone to landfills or leaked into the ocean. More than a quarter of the plastic produced is from packaging, while only 14 % is recycled and the rest is incinerated, or leaks into the environment. The EU-funded PLASTDEINK project is working to use CADEL DEINKING technology to delaminate and deink printed plastic scraps. Delaminated and deinked plastic has a similar quality to virgin plastic and is 45 % cheaper to manufacture. The PLASTDEINK project aims to contribute to a real circular economy in the frame of the EU plastic waste policy. |
