European network on advanced optical sensing technologies
The photonics sector underpins all aspects of modern society, including optical telecommunications, biophotonics, medical devices and materials processing. In Europe, sensing is the largest photonics-based application. Through the OPTAPHI project, which is funded under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme, 14 early-stage researchers will carry out a doctoral programme and receive training from leading research groups and the private sector. The network will focus on cutting-edge photonics technologies such as quartz enhanced photo-acoustic spectroscopy and photo-thermal spectroscopy. Training activities will be complemented by the organisation of summer schools, workshops and conferences. Applications abound for these compact, portable and non-invasive optical sensors in industrial process analysis, environmental monitoring and food analysis. |
