Advancing the use of donor spin qubits in silicon
A novel emerging platform for quantum technologies is the use of donor spin qubits in silicon. However, two obstacles currently hinder the application potential of silicon donor qubits. Current readout techniques require nanoelectric connections, millikelvin temperatures and high magnetic fields, and there are no scalable methods to couple multiple qubits. The EU-funded QBusSi project will develop an optomechanical quantum bus for spins in silicon to enable optical and mechanical coupling as well as readout mechanisms for the donor spins. The novel quantum bus will make it possible to integrate the spin qubits with existing silicon photonics for integrated quantum circuits and optically readable practical quantum sensors. It will also provide a solid-state on-chip testbed for creating and studying macroscopic quantum states. |
