The objective of the project is to upgrade and strengthen the capacities of the Institute of Nephrology (INEF), the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kouri (IPK) and the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (INHEM) for :
increase and modernize nephrology services in the country
develop capacities for analysis, diagnosis and surveillance of infectious diseases and strengthen the countrys capacities in response to vector epidemics
and improve the countrys health and environmental control capacities.
The funding will be used mainly for the acquisition of medical equipment and laboratory furniture. It will also finance the improvement of the standards of certain laboratory activities as well as the capacity building of the staff of each of the three institutes targeted by the project.
IMPACTS
Through the upgrading of these three institutes, the project will contribute to the development of the quality and expertise of Cuban medicine. It will also allow improved care for patients suffering from chronic pathologies and a reduction in the vulnerabilities of the Cuban and regional population to infectious diseases through the strengthening of analysis, surveillance and epidemiological control capacities.
Finally, the control of the quality of food and environmental hygiene will allow international standards to be reached, essential for the well-being of the Cuban population and the development of tourist areas on the island. |
