Project Name | U.S. 220 Widening (Greensboro) |
Project Detail | County: Guilford Status: In Development STIP Number: U-5892 Project Information Right Table Estimated Cost: $16.9 million Start Date: 2020 Completion Date: 2022 Project Overview Planning and development are underway on a proposed project to widen U.S. 220 (Battleground Avenue) in Greensboro to six lanes from Westridge Road to the eastbound I-840 ramps. Work would also involve installing a median and sidewalks on both sides. Widening Battleground Avenue is needed to address congestion and improve mobility now and in the future. It would also improve safety in the area, where the crash rate is notably higher than the average crash rate for other similar roads in North Carolina (576.13 crashes per 100 million vehicle-miles traveled, compared with an average of 341.85 crashes). The U.S. 220 widening project is included on the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Metropolitan Long-Range Transportation Plan and Comprehensive Transportation Plan. |
