Welthungerhilfe has already achieved a lot in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Region, such as convincing over 800 poppy farmers to switch to producing rose oil. Despite continual conflict, this region has the potential to offer its products to the national market. This project trains farmers to profitably and sustainably cultivate vegetables and keep fish ponds. Women work in kitchen gardens, raise chickens, and handle food processing. Demonstration areas and radio campaigns also help to educate people on topics such as measures for soil protection and pest control.
