6.JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT:
With the urbanization of the city of Abidjan, the abattoir of Port-Bouet, main infrastructure of slaughter of animals (cattle, sheep, goat) of the city of Abidjan is located in the city today. Also, its production is insufficient to supply the local market with quality animal products.
The Abidjan-Anyama Abattoir-Market Livestock Complex Construction Project aims to consolidate livestock marketing and slaughtering activities at a modern, internationally-standard center on the outskirts of the city. from Anyama, 28 km north of Abidjan).

Coordination and monitoring-evaluation - Coordination of monitoring will be provided by the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Programs of the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources
- Technical control will be provided by a private structure recruited for this purpose.
8. STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
General Objective (Goal): Contribute to improving food security in Côte dIvoire through the regular supply of quality and sufficient quantity of meat and offal to the market.
Specific objectives: 1. Have a modern and efficient slaughterhouse
2. improve the sanitary quality of animal products on the markets
3. strengthen the fight against illegal slaughter
4. Reorganize the livestock marketing and meat distribution sectors
Expected results :
(Deliverables and Effects) 1. A modern and efficient slaughterhouse-livestock complex is built and commissioned;
2. the sanitary quality of meat and offal placed on the market is improved;
3. Livestock slaughter capacity in the Abidjan District is increased;
4. the regular supply of meat and offal markets is ensured;
5. the livestock meat sector is better organized
6. An effective system for combating illegal slaughter is put in place
Main activities :
1. install a cattle slaughter line;
2. install a slaughter chain with small ruminants (sheep, goats);
3. construct a separate hall for the processing of offal, heads, paws, hides and tails;
4. build a separate wholesale and semi-wholesale meat sales hall
5. build a 2.5 ha cattle market with peripheral boxes;
6. install a grazing production area of ??10 ha;
7. provide the slaughterhouse with refrigerated trucks for the transport of meat;
8. organize the fight against illegal slaughter
Environmental and Social Impact: The preliminary environmental and social assessment study has been completed and shows that there are no major environmental obstacles to the project. Negative constraints and impacts identified will be sufficiently reduced or manageable through appropriate mitigation measures, when implementing the project.
Also, the implementation of the project will improve the livestock / meat value chain, create decent jobs and significantly improve meat prices and quality for the benefit of consumers.
