CORRIDORS MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE RING OF GROWTH IN WEST AFRICA (WAGRI-CACAO)
1. TITLE: Burkina-Niger Interconnection Project with service to the Sahel Growth Center
2. COUNTRIES OF INTERVENTION: BURKINA FASO
3. AREA OF INTERVENTION: Burkina Faso (North Central and Sahel region)
4. AREAS OF INTERVENTION: TRANSPORT AND INFRASTRUCTURE
5. STRATEGIC PLAN OF THE MASTER PLAN: Button C: Strengthening north-south connectivity
6.JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT:
Development requires the provision of adapted infrastructures. Burkina Faso has tourism, mining and mineral potential, as well as growth poles whose exploitation requires a capacity-based, economical and integrative mode of transport.
The project involves the construction of a new railway line from Kaya to Dori to the Niger (Mali) border, allowing for future connection to the Tambao mines and the Sahel growth center. The line fulfills the dual function of a new international link for future Tambao mining related traffic, and access to two ports of exit, either through Abidjan or Cotonou.
The completion of this line will provide access to Mali through northeastern Burkina Faso by opening the way to the eastern part of the Niger Loop with the urban centers of Gao and Timbuktu, or even further north to Algeria. In this region, the extraction of manganese ore is planned at a rate of two million tons per year. The transport of this ore would arrive in time to "replace" that of Tambao.
This project is a link of the rail loop project, supported by the UEMOA sub-regional project, which will connect four (04) country capitals by rail, Cotonou (Benin), Niamey (Niger), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and Abidjan ( Ivory Coast). It is also considered a priority project of ECOWAS and ALG.

8. STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
General Objective (Goal): To extend the railway network in the country and to the countries of the sub-region and to promote the development of the exploitation of the Tambao mine
Specific objectives: 1. To offer Burkina and Niger a new alternative for opening up
2. Enable the railway to play its full role in the development of exchanges between regions and provinces with significant potential for agro-pastoral production, mineral or tourist wealth
3. Increase the security of the transport of people and goods and strengthen the development of the underlying productive and commercial activities
Expected results :
(Deliverables and effects) 1. Carry out the studies necessary for the implementation of the project,
2. Build the international railway line from Kaya to Dori to the Niger border (about 210 km)
3. Construct the Dori - Tambao ramp (approximately 100 km) and the Dori ramp - Sahel growth pole
4. build the rail interconnection Tambao - Mali (about 18 km)
Main activities :
1. Project studies are carried out;
2. The Kaya-Dori-Téra-Niamey line is built and put into service:
3. The service of Niamey capital of Niger from Ouagadougou by the railroad is effective;
