SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Overall goal
The thematic focus of the 2019-2021 program is on the rights of smallholders in the global South in relation to the right to food. With five success stories from Brazil, Mali, India, Cambodia and Uganda, efforts by self-empowered peasants to raise awareness of womens rights, reversing land transfers, access to seed, and codifying the right to food in the Constitution will be made visible. The aim is to sensitize different target groups to the issues of smallholder rights, the right to food and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and to actively engage with options for action or engage in the implementation of these rights.
Expected results
1) Five success stories of smallholders working for their rights were made visible and used by the target groups for an active engagement with options for action: 3 successbooklets (7500 pieces), documentation of progress in FIAN media (40 contributions), networking with partner organizations in the global South and organization of an exchange with a south guest, 18 inputs for third party events or courses, 9 guest contributions in media and forums of third parties.
2) Target group Youth is sensitized to the right to food and smallholder rights:
2 Poetry Slams, Restaurant Action, I Eat It Right , Film Days Hunger.Macht.Profite. in 5 federal states (2 x 40 film screenings), 10 special school presentations, creation of a multimedia package (photo-video, short film, infographic), establishing a network structure for students and young people, event for the annual presentation of the Right to Food & Nutrition Watch , 15 teach-ins and youth workshops.
3) Target group Multipliers deals with smallholder rights, right to food and SDG and is committed to their implementation:
1 civil society exchange forum with south guest, 1 info folder, 3 in-house trainings, civic networking and planning of actions.
4) The Declaration for the Rights of Smallholders, the Right to Food and the SDGs are supported by the target group politics as relevant processes for the empowerment of smallholders:
1 Multistakeholder dialogue: strengthening the rights of smallholders - achievements in development cooperation, business and human rights, 1 political roundtable with south guest, lobbying activities (personal talks, 6 lobbyletters, 3 petitions), participation in international meetings in Geneva and Brussels.
The project will reach more than 8,000 people directly and around 23,000 indirectly. Via media, an additional 1 million people will be reached.
Target group / Beneficiaries
Primary target groups are young people, multipliers from the fields of development cooperation, human rights, women and decision-makers from politics and administration. An interested, wider public is reached through media and public relations.
Cooperation partner: FIAN is part of a global network. Important cooperation partners are the organizations from Brazil, Cambodia, Mali, Uganda and India, with which there is already an in-depth cooperation. In addition, Austrian organizations such as SDG-Watch, Network Smallholder Rights, Nyéléni Austria, WIDE, Cultural Association FOMP, Youth Representatives and Youth Organizations are partners in project implementation.
Regional orientation: Vienna and Austria.
Activities
The project covers a wide range of activities such as education and training (Filmtage Hunger.Macht.Profite, including placement program, school presentations in rural areas, multimedia package, multiplier training, teach-ins, youth workshops), dialogue and exchange (discussions, Poetry slams, restaurant action, civil society exchange forum and other events with South guests, half-day multi-stakeholder dialogue, political roundtable, networking). Information and public relations work (successful booklets, information packs, presentations, focal points in the FOODFirst magazine, web and social networks, press relations) accompany the action program. |
