PROJECT DETAILS
In 2012, BGC Contracting was awarded the contract to provide mining services for SIMEC Mining at the South Middleback Ranges iron ore project. The Middleback Ranges have been the site of continuous iron ore mining for more than 100 years, playing a key role in the development of the nearby region. The site produces two iron ore products: magnetite and hematite. The magnetite is processed on site and sent to Whyalla, where is it then pelletised and used as feedstock at the Whyalla Steelworks. The hematite ore mined, up to 6Mtpa, is sold to international markets. The scope of work in this project includes:
Drill and blast Ore extraction and haulage Overburden removal and waste dump management Crusher feed OBP and Concentrator feed Train loading
PROJECT OUTCOMES
Since BGC took over operations, they have seen a 30% increase in overall productivity levels at site. In light of the outstanding results BGC has achieved on the project the contract was extended in 2017 through to 2022.
