Project Detail |
DESCRIPTIVE
In this context, the project is structured around two components, taking place in the buffer zones of protected areas:
Support for the development of agroforestry through the development of a sustainable cocoa sector: the activities include financing the planting of at least 100 ha of cocoa in agroforestry, support to producer organizations to develop nurseries , ferment cocoa, and more generally set up the export chain.
Soil fertility protection and water management in the vetiver production area: studies, support to vetiver producers cooperatives, financing of anti-erosion arrangements in the vetiver production area, strengthening of the vetiver production systems traceability and environmental and social certifications, practical training on watershed management.
IMPACTS
Creation of links between producer and buyer associations.
Cocoa gardens are designed to protect the environment (regulation of water in watersheds).
The gardens create additional income for 200 to 300 producers and diversify their income.
Increase in the price of cocoa paid as a result of fermentation.
The landscaping of the gardens with a vegetal cover allows a better protection of the buffer zones downstream of the Macaya park (reduction of the erosion in particular). |
