SHORT DESCRIPTION:
project goal
The aim of the project is to build a production facility for certified organic oils in Senegal and to export the products to the EU. This WiPa will build capacity for harvesting and processing certified organic oils for the EU market. The by-products (such as press cake) are marketed locally. Thus, nationwide existing raw materials are fully utilized and made commercially available for rural populations. The project is market-oriented. The partners are reacting to the growing demand from European customers for quality certified organic oil products.
expected results
The project benefits Senegalese farmers and collectors (at least 50% women) as well as villages and cooperatives through new sources of income and the local economy through the creation of productive capacity and local value creation. Every year, the project produces at least 15 tonnes of oil. Local farmers involved in the project will experience an increase in income of at least 25% (on average approx. 300 € / year). Among other things, the project also counteracts the illegal logging of firewood.
target group
Benefit from the project: 20 organizations (such as suppliers, certifiers, laboratories, a biological association, the Gaston Berger University, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure dAgriculture, the local Chamber of Commerce and the Keur Baka commune), 55 collector groups and 25 agricultural groups including their families , 22 employees of the Baonane SARL as well as university employees and employees of the government and chamber of commerce. Overall, the project will benefit at least 420 people. At least 12 new jobs will be created. Project region is Kaolack.
activities
Specifically, (1) supply chains for the wild collection and cultivation projects are set up; (2) the production and processing of oils started; (3) subject-specific training and technical experiments; (4) implementing organic farming throughout the value chain (including certification); and (5) a Federation of Organic Farmers and Businesses. |
