SHORT DESCRIPTION:
project goal
The project aims to introduce innovative hygiene management in poultry and pig breeding on family farms in southern Brazil as well as the development of cleaners and disinfectants adapted to local needs.
The Austrian company Calvatis GmbH is part of the Calvatis Group, which produces detergents and disinfectants for companies in the agricultural and food industry and offers professional advice on the proper use of these products.
expected results
Working closely with Brazilian poultry and pig breeders associations, the Embrapa Suìnos e Aves state research institute and the Rio Grande do Sul State University, a network of experts and practitioners is being set up to help farmer families improve their livestock hygiene on their farms. sustainable and environmentally friendly. Raising the yield of healthier animals, saving costs and avoiding risks to the environment and the health of farmers and farm workers through the professional and economical use of detergents and disinfectants are expected.
target group
The target group are 80 family businesses in the region around Porto Alegre in southern Brazil, employing around 250 farm workers. In addition, there are 250 veterinarians and quality managers in the slaughterhouses of the region, 40 traders, service providers and service technicians as well as teachers and students from the University of Rio Grande do Sul.
activities
As part of the pilot program, improved hygiene management will be introduced on four poultry and two pig farms, including, in particular, the cleaning of the stalls, the water pipes and the treatment of the drinking water with the aid of suitable cleaning agents and disinfectants. Based on this, cost-benefit analyzes are developed and best-practice models are developed for the companies.
Based on this, training material will be prepared and training for farmers, veterinarians, quality managers, distribution partners and service technicians will be organized in collaboration with the Brazilian partner institutions. The network of experts will continue beyond the end of the project. |
