Australia Project Notice - Sharing And Reporting Labour Market Information

Project Notice

PNR 29403
Project Name Sharing and Reporting Labour Market Information
Project Detail In recent years, there has been added emphasis on the role of labour market information and labour mobility data in better connecting businesses and workers to new economic opportunities. However, the availability of data that is comparable across APEC economies is an ongoing challenge. The majority of APEC economies collect labour market and mobility data but, in most cases, it is incomplete, incomparable and not widely available. The purpose of this project is to promote the development of regional principles and best practices on collecting and sharing data. Its key objective is to improve the availability and accessibility of comparable data, including through an integrated regional data-sharing platform. The platform will function as a one-stop shop for accessing timely information on the region’s labour market conditions and labour mobility trends. It will help ensure that data is available to a wider audience and can be readily analysed to inform research and good policy decisions. This is particularly important as the region seeks to address increasing demand for new skills, persistent high youth unemployment, and the impact of population ageing on labour supply. These challenges have generated new demands and needs for timely, reliable and comparable data. The project will build upon international benchmarks and ongoing multilateral efforts, including the outcomes of the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians. The project budget will support a baseline study and a two-day Consultative Forum to be held in early 2019, which will guide subsequent activities and investments.
