Ringeriksbanen will shorten the travel time by train between Hønefoss and Oslo by almost one hour. At the same time, the journey time is cut with the Bergen Line as much. A new four-lane European road will also be built, which together with the double-track railway will link the Ringeriks region close to the Oslo region and provide a common housing and labor market.
The Ringeriksbanen is part of the InterCity initiative and together with the E16 Høgkastet-Hønefoss the largest joint project for road and rail in Norway.
Upon completion, Hønefoss will be only 20 short minutes away from Sandvika. Ringeriksbanen will shorten the travel time by train between Hønefoss and Oslo by almost one hour. At the same time, the journey time is cut with the Bergen Line as much. A new four-lane European road will also be built, which together with the double track will link Ringerike and Hole close to the Oslo area.
Fast planning process
The Government has decided that the Ringeriksbanen and the new E16 from the Høgkastet south of Sundvollen to Hønefoss will be planned as a joint project. The planning process must be implemented as a state regulation plan, which considerably reduces planning time. This means that it is the Ministry of Local Government and Modernization (KMD) that is the planning authority and it is those who will adopt the zoning plan in the end.
The project is divided into five sections. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is responsible for planning part 2, Skaret-Høgkastet . The zoning plan will be handled by Hole municipality.
According to the National Transport Plan (NTP) 2018-2029, construction starts for the Ringeriksbanen and E16 in 2021.
