Earlier this summer Bane NOR cleaned lots of Ofotbanen. There, the entire 12 571 meter line has been cleaned, taken out 8793 cubic meters of fines from the track and supplied approximately 6,000 cubic meters of new ballast crate from Rombak Pukk AS.
The work is done by a railing cleaning plant digging up the old hat from the track. This bag goes via conveyor belt into the cleaning plant and the cleaned bag of the correct size is then returned to the groove. Remaining mass is transported further and any contaminated mass is transported to landfill stations. After the sewage treatment plant, crushed carriages are loaded which fill with new crushed rock in approximately the same amount as the pulp that has been removed. Then, a packing machine runs over the track and packs and adjusts it.
The purpose of ballast cleaning is to remove those parts of the bag that are outside the size of 32-63 millimeters. This is done to ensure a good and stable ballast crunch that safeguards the desired trajectory of the railway track. The ballast cleaning makes the track more stable and in better condition to withstand external stresses such as heavy rainfall or strong heat. In addition, the track is more comfortable to drive on, less maintenance is required and it reduces wear on the train equipment.
This autumn, Bane NOR will clean the pebbles on the stretch between Halden and Kornsjø. The project started on 10 September and lasts November.
The work entails some noise, and part of the stretch will be night work. In addition, the plan transition in Bjørnstadgata in Tistedal will be closed during the period 10 - 13 September and the level transition in Ørveien in Aspedammen during the period 27 - 30 October. Night work will be carried out from 01.10 - 26.11, during the period at. 19.02 - 02.00. Alternative accommodation is offered to neighbors in the affected areas where work is done at night, or even to people who work night themselves. It is emphasized that hotels must be agreed with Bane NOR in advance.
