| Project Name | Haysi Transmission Line Rebuild |
| Project Detail | Appalachian Power plans to strengthen the electric transmission system in northern Dickenson County by making upgrades to the local power grid. The Haysi Transmission Line Rebuild Project includes rebuilding about 7 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to ensure continued reliable service to customers. The original line was built over 90 years ago with wood structures. Replacing these structures with new steel poles provides the area with a transmission system capable of handling the increase in power demand. About one mile of the project crosses through the Jefferson National Forest. The majority of work will take place within or adjacent to existing utility easements. Construction for the project is expected to start in the spring of 2018 and be complete by mid-2019. Estimated budget for the project is $15 million |
