Project Name | Brazos Electric Gyp To AEP Texas Benjamin 138-Kv Transmission Line Project |
Project Detail | Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. and AEP Texas Inc. plan to address the need for a stronger, more reliable transmission grid in King and Knox Counties by improving local electric infrastructure. This new transmission line will benefit the area by providing additional capacity to the existing transmission system and improving its reliability. WHAT Components of the Gyp - Benjamin Transmission Line Project include: Approximately 19 to 25 miles of new 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line. Building a new substation - Brazos Electric Gyp Substation in King Co. Expanding an existing substation - AEP Texas Benjamin Substation in Knox Co. WHY Studies have shown that adequate voltage cannot be maintained and load shedding will be required when routine maintenance is performed on existing transmission equipment in the Aspermont to Munday area and an outage occurs on another existing transmission facility during that maintenance outage in the same area. The proposed transmission line project addresses the situation to prevent the possible loss of load for routine maintenance activities. WHEN The proposed transmission line will extend from the new Brazos Gyp Substation northeast to the expansion of the existing AEP Texas Benjamin Substation. Crews will begin construction in early 2019 and are expected to complete construction in late 2019. |
