Project Name | South Padre Island - Port Isabel Transmission Improvements Project |
Project Detail | AEP Texas plans to prepare its power transmission system in the Port Isabel and South Padre Island area to better withstand adverse Gulf Coast weather through a $51 million rehabilitation program. The project includes a rebuild of about 12 miles of 138-kilovolt transmission line. The project also reduces the likelihood and duration of power outages, while supporting economic growth and the region’s crucial tourism sector. Crews will complete the work in two phases: Phase 1: Upgrade the line between the Port Isabel and Causeway substations in Port Isabel; and the line between South Padre and Sunchase substations on South Padre Island Phase 2: Upgrade the line between the Causeway and Sunchase substations near the Queen Isabella Causeway Work on the project is expected to begin in Fall 2019 and be completed by late 2020. |
