Background
The population of Bekasi City as a city of DKI Jakarta grew by 3% every year and close to 2 million people. In contrast, the condition of drinking water services of PDAM Kota Bekasi is currently very low, serving only about 25% of the total households. Furthermore, in some districts such as Pondok Gede, the coverage of PDAM services is less than 1 percent. PDAM Kota Bekasi currently only has one water intake with 10 lps capacity to serve this district. Most households in the area use ground water to meet their daily needs. Groundwater, on the other hand, has a low quality, with high Fe and Mn concentrations.
The City Government of Bekasi will expand the clean water service, due to the limited capacity of clean water available. The Air Gede Air Supply project is expected to increase total service coverage for Kecamatan Pondok Gede and Kecamatan Jatiasih. The realization of this project will contribute greatly to the city process to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) target of 68.9% of the population having sustainable access to safe drinking water.
Objectives
The objective of this project is to expand the scope of water supply services in 5 sub-districts in Pondok Gede district, namely Jatibening, Jatibening Baru, Jatimakmur, Jatiwaringin and Jaticempaka; And 4 districts in the District Jatiasih, namely Jatiasih, Jatikramat, Jatimekar and Jatirasa. The general objectives of this project are as follows:
• Develop coverage of water supply system services in Bekasi City
• Improve the quality of PDAM service in Bekasi City
Scoupe
The objective of developing a clean water supply scheme in Bekasi City is to fulfill the demand in education activities, regional economy, government and other activities. For this project, PDAM Kota Bekasi plans to take the raw water source from the West Tarum Canal that runs across the city. Data from Perum Jasa Tirta II indicate that the West Tarum Canal has an average width of 25 m and a length of 80 km, with a peak discharge rate of 55 m3 / sec. The City Government of Bekasi is currently looking for an allocation
300 lps of raw water from this source is utilized by the project. The project scope target is to provide services for 31,700 connections, of which 29,660 will be domestic and 2,040 non-domestic. Approximately 84% of these connections will be in Kecamatan Pondok Gede, and the rest in Kecamatan Jatiasih.
