Project Detail |
Construction work in 2018 was focused on widening Anderson Road from 14 Street east to Elbow Drive, and from 24 Street west to the TUC Boundary.
About the project
This project is one of several City-led projects to connect Calgary’s road network to the ring road and will accommodate changes to traffic volume and patterns that are expected after the opening of the Southwest Ring Road (SWRR).
The City is responsible for the design and construction of this project because it is located within city limits. It includes the following features:
Increasing Anderson Road from four to six lanes between the SWRR and Elbow Drive S.W. This, coupled with the higher speed limit of 80 km/hr and fewer intersections compared to other nearby east-west roads, makes it a more attractive option for people traveling through the area.
Adding extra turning lanes at all the intersections on Anderson Road between the SWRR and Elbow Drive S.W. will improve the flow of traffic along this route.
A noise study was conducted and determined that several locations along Anderson Road within the project area require noise barriers, as guided by The Citys Surface Noise Policy. Information on the location and types of noise barriers are shown here.
Project timeline
The following construction activities are underway and will continue throughout 2018:
Between Elbow Drive and 14 Street: Work is substantially complete with the exception of top lift paving at both intersections which will be completed in spring 2019.
Between 24 Street and Transportation Utilities Corridor: Anticipated completion - 2019
Between 14 Street and 24 Street: Anticipated completion - 2019
Noise barriers on the north side of Anderson Road: Anticipated completion in late 2018
Noise barrier on the south side of Anderson Road: Anticipated completion - 2019
Anticipated final completion: End of 2019. |
