Project Name Reclamation as a peat fire adaptation measure and restoration of peat ecosystem by native plantation planting and improvement of livelihood of residents
Project Detail In Indonesia, the peat swamp has dried due to the recent large-scale development, and the fire frequently occurs. As a result of this, agricultural land has spread, the populations poverty has expanded, and health damage due to smoke damage has also become serious. As a countermeasure, it is required not to treat symptomatic treatment such as fire fighting, but to restore the ecosystem of the peatland which was originally a wetland, at the same time cultivate useful trees to improve the livelihood of the residents. Four. Project goal Peat ecosystem is restored by making peatland rehydrating and planting of native species in Tanjung Rubang village of Bunkaris district of Riau province with frequent peat fires in cooperation with residents, government and enterprises, And to improve the livelihoods of residents. Five. Target area Indonesia · Riau Province Buncaris Province Tanjung Rubang Village 6. Beneficiaries (target group) Inhabitants of Bunkaris district Tanjung Ruban village, and residents who are affected by the surrounding peat fires 7. Outputs and activities to be created 1. Social mechanisms are created for residents, local governments, enterprises in Tanjung Ruban village to rewet land and reforestation of native species. 2. Residents, regional administrations, peatlands managed by companies and frequent fire occurrence are re-wetted and reforested. 3. Peat swamp ecosystem is restored by re-wetting and reforestation, fire is prevented and livelihoods of residents are improved. 1.
