Project Detail |
In the United Nations Disaster Risk Index, the Philippines ranks third among the countries most affected by natural disasters. At risk are only Vanuatu and Tonga. Every year, about 20 typhoons pass through the Philippines. In addition, there are floods, earthquakes, droughts and volcanic eruptions. In 2013, the Philippines was hit by 25 growing typhoons and an earthquake on the island of Bohol on 15/10/2013, with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale. The frequency of these natural disasters is increasingly overstretching the capacity and resources of the government and local governments to deal with them. In order to alleviate the effects of Typhoon Haiyan, which is called Taifun Yolanda in the Philippines, the measure "Reconstruction after Typhoon Haiyan" is being implemented. Among other things, the project focuses on the sustainable reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, water supply systems, sewage disposal systems, hospitals, schools and, if necessary, boaters. Reconstruction will be based on building standards that will allow the rebuilt infrastructure to withstand natural disasters.
