Project Detail |
Name of Project:
Road link between the A14 and the Port of Ancona
Country: Italy
Client: IVCA (Ispettorato Vigilanza Concessioni Autostradali)
Total value: €480 million
Start of works: January 2015
Expected duration: 72 months (Design + Construction) - 30 years (Management)
The project consists of the construction and management of the road link between the Port of Ancona, the A14 motorway and Strada Statale 16, the “Adriatica”.
The new artery has a total length of around 11 Km: 7.5 Km of motorway link between the A14 (Ancona Centro intersection) and the Port of Ancona, and approx. 3 Km of link road between S.S. 16 and the new interchange on the A14.
The project represents a strategic intervention to optimise traffic flows between the Port of Ancona, the city and the great access route of the A14 motorway, allowing adequate growth for the Ancona logistics system based around the Port, the freight terminal and the airport.
The path followed by the road lies entirely within the municipal territory of Ancona and involves a small portion of the coastline, behind the cliff of Palombella, and the hilly area immediately inland.
The main axis consists of two separate carriageways with a roadbed of 2 lanes + hard shoulder for each direction of travel. The most substantial works involve two natural tunnels (Palombella tunnel and Ghettarello tunnel) with an overall length of around 4,200 m. and two viaducts (Mattei viaduct and Barcaglione viaduct) with an overall length of around 1,250 m.
