Project Detail |
This is a proposal for a feasibility study of Locate IT, a new innovative asset tracking system for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The main advantage of Locate IT is that it will use a new breakthrough method to position a huge number of devices anywhere, both outdoor and indoor, within a few meters including correct floor.
Today there is no positioning solution that can track a device accurately everywhere. GPS is often used for asset tracking but does not work indoor. Indoor positioning systems today require infrastructure and manual setup which make them costly and do not work in all buildings. Global WiFi positioning offered not only by Combain but Google, Apple (for iOS) and Here, works everywhere, both outdoor and indoor, but does not give 3D information (floor) and is not accurate enough (20-100m) for indoor tracking. A global accurate self-learning indoor positioning system is the challenge that Combain focus its research and development on.
Locate IT is a platform as a service that builds on the existing global positioning service by Combain and adds the new indoor positioning technology. This new breakthrough technology uses sensor fusion together with mathematical algorithms to model buildings automatically to make the system self-learning. The more the positioning is used in a building, the more accurate the model will be. These algorithms are the result of many years of research collaboration with Centre of Mathematics at Lund University.
Locate IT is initially targeted towards customers and market segments that can benefit most of the new indoor positioning technology: Construction and Public Sector.
Combain has all components and knowledge required to create Locate IT: a global positioning system, patented new indoor modelling methods, an IoT platform and target customers driving requirements. In this feasibility study, Combain will explore and assess the technical feasibility and commercial potential of the proposed Locate IT asset tracking.
