Project Detail |
The purpose of the grouped project instances is to replace kerosene-based lighting with purpose
designed solar lamps in target end users of the United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa. The solar lamp is a single, small, simple and all-in-one unit. The unit consists of a series of LEDs (“Light Emitting Diode”), with a rechargeable battery and a photovoltaic panel. LED lamps use a light-emitting diode that is a semiconductor diode that emits light when an electrical current is applied. LEDs are ideal for rural lighting purposes due to their efficiency, long life time, ruggedness and low maintenance costs associated. One Photovoltaic (PV) modules consist of solar cells which can convert sunlight directly into electricity. PV modules are very useful to power electric devices like the lamps for this Project in remote, off-grid areas. Three project activity instances are: United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya and; South Africa. |
