Project Detail |
The project comprises grouped projects of new manure separation systems, each installed at a separate and distinct site. Sites will be mostly located within the New England region of the US. GHG emissions reductions will be generated through the implementation of manure separation systems, which remove volatile solids from the manure that would otherwise be subject to anaerobic decomposition conditions in the manure lagoon under baseline conditions. By removing the solids from the manure stream entering the lagoon, methane emissions are reduced.
The Initial Project Activity Instance is the Green Dream Farm, a dairy farm located in Enosburg Falls, VT. There are on average 400 head including milking cows, dry cows, and heifers. The project consists of a screw press separator, which separates solids in the dairy manure. The separated solids are then processed in a rotary drum composter and then are recycled in the farm and sold off-site as cow bedding. The liquids are diverted into the manure lagoon and are later field applied.
There are multiple types of manure separation systems which may be implemented to achieve these results. In addition to screw press manure separators, any technology listed as applicable in AMS III.Y (Version 0.30) may be employed in future project activity instances.
