A loan agreement for KD 60 million was signed in Kuwait on the 7th of April 2015 to help finance the construction of Cairo West 650 MW Power Generation Station.
The loan agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Najla’a Anwar Alahwani, Minister of International Cooperation on behalf of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, while H.E. Mr. Abdlatif Yousef Al-Hamad, Director General/ Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Fund, signed on behalf of the Fund.
The project aims at meeting part of the growing demand for electrical power and energy in the Arab Republic of Egypt, by increasing the generation capacity in the Greater Cairo Area by about 650MW. This will be accomplished by adding a steam power generating unit at Cairo West power station, that uses natural gas as its primary fuel.
The project includes the following key elements:
1 - Boiler and Accessories, Pumps and Water Treatment.
2 - Steam Turbine, Generator, Condenser and Accessories.
3 - Electrical Transformers and Switches.
4 - Mechanical and Electrical works, Heaters, Pipes and Control Systems.
5 - Civil Works.
6 - Tanks and Pollution Control Equipment.
7 - Consultancy Services Insurance.
The loan will carry interest at 3% per annum, and will be repayable over 25 years including a 6 year grace period.
Cairo Electricity Production Company will be responsible for implementing the project.
With the signing of this loan, the Arab Fund’s total contribution to financing projects in the Arab Republic of Egypt now amounts to KD Billion 1.28
