Project Detail |
The Nam Theun Power Company (NTPC) is responsible for the operation of the Nam Theun 2 dam, one of the major hydroelectric projects in Laos, and the relocation of 6000 inhabitants of the Nakai Plateau. Going from a compensatory logic to displaced people to a logic of development, the project supported by AFD aims to support agricultural, livestock and fishing activities, improve the living conditions of the population and strengthen skills local authorities.
The project co-financed by AFD and NTPC will support the development of agricultural, livestock and fishing activities on the Nakai Plateau in order to contribute to securing income and improving the living conditions of the population. It is divided into five axes:
Analysis of the agricultural potential of the plateau lands and concerted definition of land use plans to avoid conflicts over land management and promote productivity.
Dissemination of agro-ecological practices and livestock development to improve soil fertility and increase yields. A "value chain" approach will be favored.
Construction and rehabilitation of small irrigation works, based on a recent diagnosis.
Valuation of the catch of the fishing (transformation and marketing of the products) and implication of the association of the fishermen in the management of the tank.
Capacity building of the district agricultural and forestry office on project management and innovative approaches to create a space for dialogue for all stakeholders (villagers, producers, authorities, etc.) |
