The development objective of the Support to Rebuilding of Agriculture Production Project for Africa is to support the rebuilding of the farm assets of small scale producers including women producers, through the provision of improved certified and foundation seeds for rice and maize in Guinea, Sierra-Leone, and Liberia in order to mitigate the current and forthcoming impacts of the Ebola outbreak on the vulnerable poor rural households. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) avoiding the use of nitrogen fertilizers; (2) training all the actors in the input utilization chain; (3) ensuring promotion of organic farming control mechanisms; (4) ensuring strict adherence to protective measures and insecticide spraying regulations; (5) ensuring sustainable management of wetlands and natural habitats; and (6) undertaking dialogue between animal breeders and farmers (prevention and conflict management mechanisms). |
