The development is located on the western shores of Dubai; Waterfront will transform 1.4 billion square feet of empty desert and sea into an international community ? for an estimated population of 1.5 million people. Waterfront is twice the size of Hong Kong Island. Schedule | Development of the project will take place over multiple phases. The first phase is expected to be developed over a period of 5 - 10 years. 2nd phase of the project is the Arabian Canal Project which is expected to be developed over a period of 25 years. Conceptual masterplan was carried out over a period of 2 years by an international consortium consisting of Michael Graves & Associates, Davis Brody Bond, Gruzen Samton and MVRDV. Ghantoot Gulf Contracting was awarded the phase 1, 2 and 3 grading and water works contract. The contract is valued at over Dhs.367 million. Contract duration is 18 months and work will be carried out on 1,000 square meters of land. Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting started work on the estimated Dhs.160 million contract which involves Phase 1 earth moving contract. The package entails on the cutting, filling, and reclaiming of about 160 million cubic metres of materials. Wade Adams has won the infrastructure package for Al Oud district of the project. The first main construction contract for residential buildings which includes 140 villas and 850 apartments is awarded to Mammut Group in November 2007. |
