The acquisition includes nine projects in different stages and the Portón del Sol solar plant, the first utility-scale plant in the country, located in Caldas. The Ecopetrol Group announced the signing of an agreement to acquire the renewable energy portfolio of the Norwegian multinational Statkraft in Colombia. The transaction encompasses ten companies with solar and wind projects located in the departments of La Guajira, Sucre, Córdoba, Caldas, and Magdalena, and represents the addition of 1,364 MW of installed capacity to the Colombian state-owned company. The acquired portfolio includes a company dedicated to the development and operation of solar and wind assets, six special-purpose companies holding solar projects totaling 614 MW, and three companies holding wind projects totaling 750 MW. Among the assets is the Portón del Sol solar plant, located in La Dorada, Caldas, with a capacity of 128 MWp and in operation for over a year. Of the nine projects in the transaction, three are ready to begin construction and one is already operational. The solar projects are spread across three locations in Córdoba, one in Sucre, one in Magdalena, and one in Caldas, while the wind projects are concentrated in La Guajira. The acquisition is subject to compliance with conditions precedent and the approval of the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce, as well as other legal requirements. Once these procedures are completed, Ecopetrol will publish the corresponding information in accordance with applicable regulations. Statkraft announced that, through its subsidiaries Enerfín Sociedad de Energía and Enerfin Enervento Exterior, it formalized the sale of Enerfín Colombia to Ecopetrol. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Bogotá, Enerfín Colombia manages eight projects under development and the Portón del Sol solar plant. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025. The acquisition will allow Ecopetrol to exceed its goal of incorporating 900 MW of self-generation capacity from renewable sources, in line with its 2040 Strategy. Furthermore, the transaction will facilitate the generation of low-emission energy for self-consumption, which will reduce energy purchases under bilateral contracts and, it is assured, reduce exposure to stock market purchases. The sale to Ecopetrol is part of Statkrafts strategy to focus on core markets and build scale in the Nordic countries, Europe, and South America. |
