Grupa Przemyslowa Baltic will supply additional structures for the foundations PGE and Orsted have signed another contract for the production and supply of additional steel structures for the foundations (so-called secondary steel) of the 1500MW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. The production of the components will take place in Pomerania region of Poland. Boat landing and anode cages will be manufactured by a Polish company, Grupa Przemyslowa Baltic, at its factory in Gdansk. The anode cages and boat landing are installed to protect the foundation from corrosion and mechanical damage. The contract signed with Grupa Przemyslowa Baltic is the next and final part of the secondary steel area for the Baltica 2 project. Bartosz Fedurek, chief executive of PGE Baltica, said: The signing of this agreement is another step forward for Polands rapidly growing offshore wind energy supply chain. Key components needed for the construction and subsequent safe operation of offshore wind farms will be manufactured in Poland. One of PGEs main goals is to maximise the participation of domestic companies in both current and future offshore projects in Poland. The use of Polish facilities and the knowledge of our specialists is another important contribution to the development of the domestic industry in the huge and strategic undertaking, which is the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic. Ulrik Lange, vice president and managing director of the Baltica 2 project at Orsted, added: Todays signing of an agreement with a Polish company for such an important area as secondary steel is a clear signal that the domestic supply chain can compete in the offshore wind industry. This competitiveness is also important for investors as it fosters innovation, which is a key element in the development of offshore wind technology worldwide. We are developing the production of steel structures for foundations, so-called secondary steel, which play a key role in ensuring the durability and safety of offshore wind farms. We are pleased that the components produced in Gdansk will work for Polands energy transition. Baltic Industrial Group is a Polish holding company owned by the Industrial Development Agency and based in Gdansk. It consists of Gdansk Shipyard, Energomontaz Pólnoc-Gdynia and Baltic Operator. The Baltic Industrial Group manufactures, among other things, steel structures for onshore and offshore wind power. The Baltica 2 project entered the offshore construction phase this year. Seabed preparation works for the installation of foundations and subsea cables will begin shortly. |
