Work Detail The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of revetment structures along the Gingoog River in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, providing stronger flood protection in the area. Implemented under multiple contract packages, the project includes road excavation, hand-laid embankments, installation of structural sheet piles, and the clearing and grubbing of vegetation to make way for a 559 meter-long flood wall. DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan emphasized that the project is part of the Department’s on-going efforts to enhance climate resilience in preparation for the upcoming rainy season. The project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More Infrastructure Program. According to DPWH Region 10 Director Lilibeth N. Aparecio, the flood protection works were carried out by the Misamis Oriental 1st District Engineering Office, with a total funding of 190.96 million sourced from the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA). “Yesterday’s fears about the devastating effects brought by flooding will no longer affect the locals, allowing the increase of socio-economic activities and boost agricultural productivity in the area,” said Director Aparecio.
