Siemens Energy has secured a major contract from ACEREZ – a joint venture between ACCIONA, COBRA, and Endeavour Energy – to deploy seven synchronous condensers in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), marking a critical step in supporting grid stability for one of Australia’s largest renewable energy initiatives. The Central-West Orana REZ, spanning 20,000 square kilometres across Dubbo, Dunedoo, and Mudgee, aims to deliver 4.5 GW of renewable power in its first stage. As the region prepares for an influx of renewable generation from solar and wind, maintaining grid stability amid variable energy output presents a significant technical challenge. Siemens Energy’s synchronous condensers will address this need by dynamically regulating reactive power to stabilize voltage and providing critical inertia to counteract frequency fluctuations. The advanced technology will help ensure a secure and reliable electricity supply, even under changing weather conditions and renewable generation levels. “This is a big step towards creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy system for future generations,” said Samuel Morillon, Managing Director of Siemens Energy Australia. “By deploying advanced technologies such as our synchronous condensers, we are improving grid stability and security while paving the way for the integration of up to 4.5 gigawatts of renewable energy.” Mr. Morillon emphasized the significance of the partnership: “Our collaboration with ACEREZ reflects a unified effort to meet the nation’s renewable energy targets while delivering tangible benefits to local communities.” Comprehensive Scope and Long-Term Commitment Under the contract, Siemens Energy will supply, install, commission, and test the synchronous condensers, which will be equipped with flywheels and auxiliary systems to enhance operational reliability. A five-year service agreement is also included, covering preventive maintenance, system monitoring, and rapid response support. Cybersecurity solutions will be integrated to safeguard critical infrastructure from potential threats, reflecting Siemens Energy’s broader commitment to delivering resilient and secure energy solutions. With a strong track record in supporting similar projects nationwide, Siemens Energy continues to invest in local job creation and economic development, reinforcing its role in driving Australia’s clean energy transition. |
