The San Juan government launched an ambitious expansion project for the Dr. Guillermo Rawson Hospital, with an official investment of $12.5 billion and an estimated completion time of 15 months . The project includes the construction of 76 new outpatient clinics for the care of adults and children and represents one of the most significant interventions in the provinces healthcare infrastructure. The new building will be located in the northeast section of the hospital grounds, at the intersection of Santa Fe and Estados Unidos Streets. There will be two main buildings connected by an internal courtyard, with a total of 5,500 m² spread over two floors . A third section will also house a cafeteria for staff and visitors. Specifically, the building located on Santa Fe Street will house the adult sector, with 40 consulting rooms , four infirmaries, waiting rooms, a reception area, storage rooms, and restrooms. The building on Estados Unidos Street will have 36 pediatric consulting rooms , waiting areas, a nursing area, and primary care. On the first floor , there will be a media library with 30 computers , four medical simulation rooms , a multipurpose room (MU) for 150 people, 32 parking spaces , a chapel, and support services. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the projects design also incorporates criteria for professional comfort and operational functionality , providing expansion spaces for medical staff, training rooms, and support areas. This expansion will double the hospitals current adult clinic capacity and substantially improve patient access to outpatient care. In 2024, Rawson Hospital provided more than 335,000 outpatient visits , of which 271,253 were for adults and 64,600 were for pediatric patients . With the new infrastructure, it is projected to serve 35,000 people per month in the new clinics alone. In addition to this project, the Province continues to advance the expansion and refurbishment of 149 Primary Health Care Centers (CAPS) and the construction of two new departmental hospitals in Angaco and Calingasta, thus consolidating a comprehensive plan to strengthen the public health system.
