Work Detail MGEN Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), the renewable energy arm of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), announced a major milestone for its flagship MTerra Solar project—reporting 42% overall progress during the Solar & Storage Live Philippines 2025 event. Billed as the world’s largest integrated solar and battery energy storage system (BESS), the MTerra Solar project spans more than 3,500 hectares across Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. Once fully operational, it is expected to deliver 3,500 MWp of solar energy and 4,500 MWh of storage capacity, significantly boosting the Philippines’ clean energy supply. Phase 1 of the project remains on schedule for completion by Q1 2026, and includes a 13-kilometer, 500-kilovolt transmission line to directly connect the facility to the national grid. In his keynote address at the event, MGreen and Terra Solar Philippines President and CEO Dennis Jordan underscored the project’s dual focus on energy generation and community development. “Our 42% overall progress rate shows the dedication of the team that we have here in the Philippines,” said Jordan. “This isn’t a distant vision—it’s alive, it’s growing, and it’s being built with world-class engineering, environmental safeguards, and Filipino talents.” More than 5,000 workers are currently deployed on-site, with the total workforce expected to peak at 16,000 during peak construction. To support this growth, MGreen launched the TERRAnsform program in collaboration with Meralco Power Academy and local government units. The initiative has already trained 60 graduates and is currently educating 600 scholars in renewable energy construction and operations. “We want MTerra Solar to benefit not just the energy sector, but also the communities hosting it,” Jordan added. “This is what inclusive energy development looks like.” Once completed, the facility is expected to power 2.4 million households and offset 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually—equivalent to removing 3 million gasoline-powered vehicles from Philippine roads. In a separate development, MGreen announced the completion of three new solar farms in Q1 2025, expanding MGEN’s renewable energy portfolio to nearly 400 MWac of net sellable capacity across seven provinces: Bulacan, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, and Batangas. The company is now on track to exceed its 1,500 MW clean energy goal by 2027, ahead of its initial 2030 target. MGreen’s presence at Solar & Storage Live Philippines 2025 reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Philippines’ national targets of achieving 35% renewable energy in the power mix by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
