| Work Detail | It appears that Ford's faulty door latch is a much larger problem than it originally appeared, as the automaker is now recalling far more vehicles than before. In the first week of August, Ford issued a recall covering some 830,000 vehicles in the US for an issue with door latches. The recall has now expanded to include an additional 1.5 million vehicles, at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This brings the total recall (hehe) figure to nearly 2.4 million cars in North America. This recall affects the 2013-2015 Ford C-Max and Escape, 2012-2015 Ford Focus, 2014-2016 Ford Transit Connect and 2015 Ford Mustang and Lincoln MKC. The issue relates to the pawl spring tab, which is part of the door latch assembly. This pawl could break, and if it does, the door will either refuse to close or spring open while the vehicle is in motion. Thus far, one accident and three injuries might be connected to this recall. Ford will replace the door latches at no cost to the customer. In the interim, owners should keep an eye on their doors. Before you ask, no, taping the doors shut is not a wise idea to keep your vehicle on the road. |
