Route 6: Repaving is progressing on Paso Córdoba, a key section for transportation to Vaca Muerta. The province of Río Negro is moving forward with the repaving of Provincial Routes 6 and 8, a key project for the regions logistics development and the supply of inputs to Vaca Muerta. In the Paso Córdoba area, south of General Roca, CN Sapag SA road machines are working intensively on earthmoving tasks on the shoulders, with work extending even into the weekend. Work on this stretch—highly traveled by trucks transporting sand from nearby quarries to fracking wells in the Neuquén basin—includes site preparation, treatment of the existing pavement, and subsequent comprehensive resurfacing. The project aims to improve road safety and the durability of a strategic route for the transport of heavy loads. The repaving work is being carried out in two major sections: CN Sapag SA: National Route 22 to the junction with Provincial Route 68 – 57 kilometers. Construction Center SA: Provincial Route 8 to La Esperanza – 128 kilometers. The section known as Tres Cruces, within the Paso Córdoba area, will be one of the most technically challenging due to its steep gradient, heavy traffic flow, and lack of alternative routes. These conditions require careful planning to maintain traffic flow while the works are carried out. The project has an official budget of $32 billion and was recognized by the provincial government as the largest public works project currently underway in Río Negro. Its importance goes beyond road infrastructure: it is also part of the critical infrastructure that supports national energy development by facilitating access and transportation to Vaca Muerta. In addition to the logistical benefits, the repaving will improve connections between towns and boost tourism in natural areas like Paso Córdoba, which are popular on weekends with residents and visitors engaging in outdoor recreational activities.
