The Neuquén Provincial Government announced the tender for a key urban sanitation project: the complete renovation of the Tronador wastewater treatment plant, the largest in the province. The estimated investment is $7.5 billion, with a completion period of 420 calendar days and financing from the Provincial Treasury. Located in Neuquén, the Tronador plant processes the sewage effluent of 90% of the citys population. The refurbishment aims to maintain its original treatment capacity, modernize the facilities, and improve operational efficiency by incorporating state-of-the-art technology into the civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. The technical project includes specific interventions in each functional sector. The most significant tasks include: installation of automatic screens in the intake chamber, complete renovation of the sieves, construction of new sand traps and degreasers, structural and mechanical renovations to the digester reactors and secondary sedimentation tanks, maintenance of sludge thickeners, and improvements to the thickened sludge room. A double-belt dewatering belt will also be installed, replacing the current filter press. Other key works include the construction of a station for vacuum trucks, the upgrade of the SCADA (control and automation) system, the addition of new laboratory equipment, and general building improvements such as painting and replacing doors and gates. These tasks aim to strengthen the operational sustainability of an infrastructure critical to the environmental and urban health of the provincial capital. The bidding process will be formalized on May 14 in Neuquén city. According to official information, the bidding documents will be published the previous weekend. This project is part of a broader provincial sanitation agenda, such as the plants planned for Cutral Co, Plaza Huincul, and other towns with growing demand for services. The renovation of the Tronador plant will extend its useful life and adequately respond to urban growth, reducing health risks and optimizing the environmental impact of the citys sewage system.
