The Ministry of Power, Government of India, through the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), has scheduled the first phase of a National Workshop on the integration of Renewable Energy (RE) through Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This important event will be conducted on 8th May 2025 in hybrid mode, allowing participation both in-person and online. All interested RE and ESS vendors have been invited to join by registering through a shared online link. The final agenda of the workshop outlines a day-long schedule filled with informative and technical sessions led by prominent industry experts, government officials, and stakeholders. The first session, led by Dr. Veepin Kumar and Sh. Deepak Choudhary from CEA will focus on the policy framework aimed at combating climate change by integrating renewable energy and storage systems. This will be followed by a presentation from Sh. Abhishek Ranjan, CEO of BRPL, will share insights from the recently commissioned 20 MW/40 MWh BESS project in Delhi. Dr. Kuldeep Rana from MNRE will discuss prospects in renewable energy. This will be followed by discussions on the integration of storage with rooftop and distributed renewable energy systems by Smt. Ammi R. Toppo from CEA, and on pumped storage projects by Sh. Sharvan Kumar. After the lunch break, Sh. Vijay Menghani will explain storage location optimization using a Stellar Resource Adequacy Tool. A techno-commercial study on replacing diesel generator sets with BESS at Sewa Bhawan will be presented by Dr. Veepin Kumar and Dr. Himanshu Jain from IIT Roorkee. A special session on modular BESS solutions will feature CEOs from Newen System, Replus, and Phoenix Contact, who will present scalable solutions for replacing diesel gensets. Later sessions will include highlights of recent solar and BESS tenders from SECI and shared learnings from operational and under-construction hybrid solar-plus-storage plants in Lakshadweep and Himachal Pradesh. The event will conclude with remarks by a senior member of the CEA’s planning division. The workshop is expected to bring together key voices and advance discussions on India’s growing renewable energy goals and the critical role energy storage systems will play in achieving them. |
