Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited (GULF), a leading Thai conglomerate in energy and infrastructure, has successfully delivered a solar-powered clean energy solution to the Sri Suwan Sanae Pong Community Learning Center in Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province. The initiative is part of GULF’s broader “Green Energy Green Network for THAIs” project, aimed at uplifting underserved communities through sustainable energy access. Located deep within the Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary, the learning center serves underprivileged students from remote areas, providing education aligned with the Ministry of Education’s curriculum. The center, which supports 22 full-time students and an additional 30 through independent studies, had long suffered from inadequate electricity and chronic water shortages due to its isolated location at the end of the village’s water supply line. According to Mr. Chanchai Sangkhathiti, a teacher at the center, these challenges often left students and staff without sufficient water for months, relying on manual transport of water for daily needs. “Previously, electricity was limited and water was scarce. This significantly impacted both learning and living conditions for students who reside here,” he said. The recent installation of solar panels by GULF has transformed daily life at the center. The system now enables the reliable pumping and storage of water, ensuring availability for drinking, cooking, and sanitation. It has also supported the cultivation of vegetables, mushrooms, and fish—reducing operational costs and improving nutrition. Access to consistent electricity has additionally empowered digital learning. “We can now use computers and extend study hours into the night,” noted Mr. Su Phosi, a Mathayom 4 student. Fellow student Ms. Hathaithip Chaiphiromkul echoed this sentiment, saying the change has brought “immense relief,” allowing more focus on education. “This solar power system does more than provide water and electricity—it opens doors to knowledge, better livelihoods, and future opportunities for our students,” Mr. Chanchai added, expressing gratitude on behalf of the center. GULF reaffirmed its commitment to extending clean energy solutions to remote Thai communities with limited access to public infrastructure. The company views this effort as essential to reducing inequality and driving long-term sustainable development across Thailand. |
