The Mendoza government ratified the agreement to carry out the modernization of the Bombal Canal Irrigation System, a strategic project for the Cuadro Nacional district in the department of San Rafael. With a planned investment of $2,100,000, the initiative will be financed through the Industrial Promotion Compensation Fund and executed by the General Department of Irrigation. The estimated completion period is 18 months. The project aims to optimize water resource management in a heavily agricultural area, directly benefiting 267 users and more than 1,400 hectares under irrigation. The project includes the construction of a reservoir with a full-day storage capacity during peak demand, water supply works, a connection to Bombal Canals 1 and 2, a discharge spillway, and the improvement of the canals conveyance capacity. In addition, the installation of a new distribution infrastructure is planned, which will allow for more efficient, equitable, and sustainable management of irrigation water. As detailed in Decree 764, the funds will be administered by Mendoza Fiduciaria SA, under the supervision of the Undersecretariat of Infrastructure and Territorial Development. However, the provincial government decided to cancel the call for proposals, considering that the proposals were significantly higher than the official budget. A new tender is expected in mid-June, although the date has not yet been confirmed. The projects financial framework includes a long-term repayment plan, proposed by the General Department of Irrigation, with the goal of recovering 60% of the investment over a period of 10 to 20 years, taking into account users ability to pay and similar circumstances in the province.
