NovaSource Power Services, recognized as the largest solar operations and maintenance (O&M) provider globally, has partnered with Doral Renewables to support the Mammoth Solar Project in Indiana. NovaSource has been appointed to handle both the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) responsibilities and serve as the Generator Operator (GO) for the project, which stands as one of the most significant agrivoltaic developments in the United States. The Mammoth Solar Project is located across Pulaski and Starke Counties and is designed as a multi-phase initiative that will deliver close to 1.6 gigawatts (GWdc) of clean, renewable energy upon completion. What makes this project notable is its dual-purpose use of land—combining solar power generation with agricultural activity. This integration supports local farmers by enabling continued agricultural production alongside solar installations, creating an additional income stream while promoting efficient land use and advancing sustainability goals. The project is being developed in four phases. Mammoth North, with a capacity of 480MWdc, was completed in the fourth quarter of 2024. The remaining phases—Mammoth South (360MWdc), Mammoth Central I (360MWdc), and Mammoth Central II (360MWdc)—are scheduled to become operational in 2026. Throughout each phase, NovaSource will play a critical role in managing the site’s operations, ensuring that the solar facilities are maintained to the highest standards of performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. Drawing on its experience managing over 30GW of solar energy assets worldwide, NovaSource will implement best-in-class O&M practices tailored to the unique needs of a large-scale agrivoltaic project. This includes delivering Generator Operator services, maintaining NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) compliance, and supporting the Generator Owner (GOP) to ensure effective integration with the electric grid. Irfan Bharde, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at NovaSource Power Services, stated, “Mammoth Solar Project represents a groundbreaking approach to agrivoltaics, and we are proud to collaborate with Doral Renewables on a project that sets new industry benchmarks for scale, sustainability, and innovation. Our team is committed to delivering the highest standards of service, ensuring the project operates at its full potential and meeting all regulatory and operational requirements.” Chris Hinton, Vice President of Asset Management at Doral Renewables, mentioned, “We are thrilled to partner with NovaSource Power Services to bring the Mammoth Solar Project to life. Mammoth Solar’s commitment to farming families, dual-use practices and the local communities will allow farmers to produce food and crop alongside the solar panels, maximizing their land and profitability. The majority of these efforts will occur during the operation phase of the project and require an O&M partner with both professional experience and a similar community-oriented approach. NovaSource’s proven track record and credentials makes them the perfect partner to back up our commitments.” NovaSource’s role will also involve the use of advanced, data-driven asset management strategies. Through continuous monitoring and analytics, the company aims to optimize the performance of the solar infrastructure, increase energy output, and reduce downtime. These efforts will contribute to the long-term success and efficiency of the Mammoth Solar Project. As the demand for dependable, renewable energy continues to grow, the Mammoth Solar Project represents a significant step forward in sustainable energy development. With NovaSource providing operational leadership and technical expertise, the project is expected to serve as a model for future solar initiatives that combine energy production with agricultural preservation, benefitting both local communities and broader environmental goals for many years to come. |
