Agricultural communities in the municipality of Sibunag, Guimaras now benefit from two (2) farm-to-market roads (FMR) completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel identified the completed projects in Barangay Maabay, which involve the concrete paving of a 725-lineal meter FMR in Sitio Liningwan and another 560-lineal meter FMR in Sitio Camulong. Both projects were undertaken in convergence with the Department of Agriculture, aligned with the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Build, Better, More” program to provide safe, reliable, and resilient infrastructure that is responsive to the needs of the people. “The upgraded FMRs aim to reduce high transportation costs in hauling products from farms to the market, one of the major challenges faced by residents in the far-flung areas of Barangay Maabay,” said Director Oropel. With the improved road condition, agri-producers now experience a safer and more efficient access as well as hassle-free delivery of their products such as rice, charcoal, and livestock to the market and trade centers. Other construction works on the FMRs include line canal, concrete slope protection, pipe culverts, and provision of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings and warning signs for optimal road visibility and safety. DPWH Guimaras DEO implemented the FMR projects with an allocation of P14.9 million each. |
