With a comprehensive intervention encompassing road, water , and urban infrastructure , the municipality of La Plata launched an ambitious phase of its Public Works and Maintenance Plan in Villa Elvira , one of the districts towns with the greatest structural needs. The project includes repaving , improving, and installing curbs and gutters on 262 arteries , as well as constructing 252 storm drains . This is intended to mitigate flooding and improve water runoff in critical areas . One of the most important hydraulic axes is the new storm drain on 120th Street between 75th and 76th Streets , which will optimize rainwater drainage in a historically affected area. In parallel, repaving works are being carried out on key streets, such as the 609th Street (between 122nd and 7th), the 610th Street (between 7th and 13th), and the 12 bis Street (between 80th and 85th), where the deterioration of the roadway posed road risks for drivers and pedestrians . These improvements aim to strengthen the neighborhoods internal connectivity , facilitating traffic flow and relieving congestion on other arteries. Another essential component of the plan is the modernization of public lighting : the installation of 250 new illuminated blocks and the replacement of 17,000 existing lights are planned , which will increase urban safety and energy efficiency . Bus lanes and pedestrian accessibility improvements will also be incorporated . The works also include the enhancement of two neighborhood squares , new storm-water pedestrian crossings at street corners, and the construction of an entrance arch , as part of a strategy to reinforce local identity and the urban environment. This intervention in Villa Elvira is part of the plans overall objective , which aims to improve more than 2,000 blocks throughout the La Plata district , creating a safer, more articulated, and more resilient traffic system in the face of climate-related events. The package of works was agreed upon with residents and representatives of institutions during a Community Meeting led by municipal authorities , where the most urgent priorities for the area were identified. |
