ST Engineering, Alstom, CTCI Corporation and Hyundai Rotem Company have been awarded a SGD 1.4 billion (USD 1 billion) turnkey rail contract for the new Taichung MRT Blue Line. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of this year, and would become operational in 2034. The contract covers the supply and installation of the railway systems for the new fully automated line including the signalling system, power supply system and rolling stock respectively. The contracted scope covers a period of about 14 years and is expected to start in the second quarter of 2025. Alstom will deliver the signalling system, while CTCI will be responsible for the power supply system, and Hyundai Rotem will design and supply the rolling stock under a USD 289 million contract. The new line will be operated by 28 3-car or 4-car trainsets with a capacity of around 530 passengers each. ST Engineering Urban Solutions will lead overall project management and systems integration, provide rail electronics including communications system, automatic fare collection system platform screen doors and SCADA system, and oversee the development of the above-ground train depot. This contract builds on the momentum of ST Engineering Urban Solutions’ current turnkey rail projects, further expanding its rail footprint in Taiwan. ST Engineering was also involved in the Taichung MRT Green Line for which electronics solutions were supplied and has provided full turnkey rail services for projects in several Taiwan cities. “With an experienced and dedicated local team of experts in Taiwan, we are fully committed to executing this project and delivering a world-class metro system that will improve connectivity and contribute to Taichung City’s development,” Chew Men Leong, President of Urban Solutions at ST Engineering, said. The fully automated Taichung MRT Blue Line will be 24.8 km long with eight elevated stations and 12 underground stations. Connecting the east and west of Taichung, the Blue Line will be integrated with the city’s existing Green Line and is poised to enhance the capacity of Taichung’s public transport network when completed. |
